I've said repeatedly since the announcement was made that I'm thrilled about Peter Capaldi taking over as the Doctor. Matt Smith, who played a 900 year old time lord as a spoiled child, was taxing to watch.
Of course Stephen Moffat is still at the helm and his tenure as show runner has not gone well. In addition to bad casting decisions, Moffat's era has been dominated by gaping plot holes and needlessly complicated story lines. It's the sort of 'lets just keep making things more and more complicated until everyone stops caring' hole that Lost dug for itself.
So, here's hoping that Capaldi is good enough to make up for Moffats long list of failings! Doctor Who starts again on August 23.
"A brand-new era of Doctor Who begins as the Time Lord dons a new look. Peter Capaldi said of his Doctor: “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.” While lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: “New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!” The upcoming season also stars Jenna Coleman (Death Comes to Pemberley) as companion Clara."
