First Nelson Mandela TV Interview (1961)

The death of Nelson Mandela is, obviously, very sad. It’s tempting at times like this to remain offline. Today I got Tweets, Facebook posts and emails from just about every political organization, elected representative and candidate with whom I’ve ever had any association. I know it’s expected of them but somehow it all diminishes the man’s life (especially those few who were callous enough to turn it into a fund raising email).

This post from Open Culture is great though. It is an interview with Nelson Mandella in his prime. It’s not Nelson Mandela the elder statesman or post-apartheid President of South Africa. This is Nelson Mandela the revolutionary, still in hiding and hoping to avoid charges of sabotage. It doesn’t show the famous Nelson Mandela but a young lawyer on his way to fame and international admiration.
