Google as a 1980s BBS

Back in the day, before the internet was available to consumers, before we had GUIs (Graphic User Interfaces) and long before AOL made it easy for people with no computer skills to connect we had local BBSes. You could dial up (on your 2600 or, maybe 5200 baud modem) and exchange text files, play text based RPGs, chat with other users and even send notes or files across the country - though it might take days to relay the message that far.

For those of you who are feeling nostalgic or those who want to see how the cave men lived, check out this Google BBS that someone at Masswerk created. It's also worth remembering that the internet and computing will probably progress faster in the next 30 years than they have in the last 30. It's hard to imagine what the computers and the online world of 2043 might look like.
